Craft Fair

Hi all!  Whew...what a busy past few weeks.  I can't believe it's almost been a month since my last post.  As you've guessed, I've been quite busy and my blog has been neglected.  The craft fair that I participated in was a huge success and as promised, I'm sharing photos of items that were made for the sale.  My sister assisted and we had two tables of a variety items  including paper crafts, cards, homemade body products (soaps, body butters, lip balms, lotion bars), embellished towels and baked goods.  The list was long!

 Table 1
Table 2

Note Pads - mini legal pads were cut to form pads and covered with various Designer Series Papers - some current and some retired.  The covers were also embellished and different sayings were printed to finish the note pads.  These were popular!

Santas made from the retired Petal Cone Bigz L Die from Stampin' Up!  These were the most popular item of the day and quickly sold out.  I received an order to make them for an upcoming event so am busy making more of them.  I'll be sure to take a photo of one individually to post in the future. Though the die is officially retired by Stampin' Up!, it is still available in the Clearance section.  Click here to order your Petal Cone Bigz L Die. The die is very versatile and I plan to share other projects using the die.  Kay Sha at Creations on Paper has general directions for making the Santa using the Petal Cone Die and I made a few adjustments on the embellishments.

Mini-Legal Pads with Matching Pen
These also were a big success.  They make great hostess gifts during the holidays.

There are still a couple of photos that I'll share on my next post.  Be sure to sign up to follow my blog so you will receive notice of the next post!  Until then, have a great week.

A Fancy Fold

Hi everyone!  Hope all's well.  It's been busy around my house preparing for an upcoming craft fair but it's been fun too.  The house is a "creative mess"!  I'll be sharing some of the projects with you in the weeks ahead so stay tuned.  Today's share is a card sample from last month's "Flips and Folds" class.  This card is a nice change from normal folds and simple to make.

Fancy Fold Thank You Card

Materials:
Crushed Curry Card Stock
Coastal Cabana Card Stock
Whisper White Card Stock
Eastern Elegance Designer Series Paper
Coastal Cabana Classic Stampin' Pad
Crushed Curry Classic Stampin' Pad
Window Frames Collection Framelits
Blossom Punch
7/8" Scallop Circle Punch
Mixed Bunch Stamp Set
Regarding Dahlias Stamp Set
Rhinestone Basic Jewels

To make the card base, start with a piece of 8" x 4 1/4" card stock and score at 4" on the landscape side to create a card size of 4" x 4 1/4".  Decorate base with designer series paper or as desired.  Use the largest Window Frames framelit to cut a piece card stock and attach the window frame to card base. Be sure to position the piece with half of it above and half of it below the card's fold.  This should be a standard 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card size.  NOTE:  Apply adhesive only on part of the window frame piece that is below the fold. Otherwise there will be adhesive showing on the back of your card.   Decorate and embellish as desired.

Hope you get a chance to make a Fancy Fold card!  If so, please share your design with me!!!

Have a great week!

Halloween Treats

Finally!  A new post!!!  It's been busy around my house the past couple of weeks and I'm finally getting back on track to post some projects.  Last Friday, a neighbor organized the annual Halloween Golf Tournament for a group of ten couples. We dressed in costumes, played a 9 hole golf tournament and enjoyed dinner together.  It was a blast!  Playing  golf in costume was not the easiest thing to do but it wasn't exactly serious golf, as wine was served prior to teeing off.  My task was to provide treats for the group and I decided to make Treat Bags based upon Julie Brewer's design from the Inky Fingers Club.  It was an easy and fairly quick project to complete.

Various designs from the Witches' Brew Designer Series Paper was used to cut the flag pennants.  Elegant Eggplant and Pumpkin Pie card stocks were used to cut the Chalk Talk Framelits tag.  The tags were then texture embossed with the Houndstooth Embossing folder.  Assorted Halloween themed sayings (current and retired) were used to add a Halloween sentiment.  The clothespins for closing the cello bags was covered with Witches' Brew Designer Washi Tape.

Many thanks to Julie for this project idea! Be sure to check out Inky Fingers Club.

Thank you for stopping by.

Craft Fair Project

Last week's posts were supposed to automatically update while I was on vacation but obviously there was a glitch so the projects will be shared this week.  I had a wonderful week on the Florida Panhandle and Tropical Storm Karen fizzed so the weather was perfect.  Below is a picture of the beautiful sunsets we enjoyed each evening...

Now for my project share...next month I will be participating in a craft fair so I'm in the midst of making a variety items to sell. One of the items being prepared are covered mini-notepads.  The pads are a miniature version of hardbound composition books and are the perfect size for keeping in a purse or other handy place.  Coastal Cabana Designer Series Paper was used on the sample below.  The sentiment is from the Best of Greetings Stamp set and the Chalk Talk Framelits were used to cut the shape.

Tri-Fold Shutter Card

Today's project is another of the cards that will be featured in the October "Folds and Flips" class...it's a tri-fold shutter card. This type of card is a fun card to make and by using a variety of coordinating designer papers you can create a beautiful card. The Epic Day This and That Designer Series Paper was chosen to make this card and sentiments were selected for a "keeping in touch" card.  As seen in the photos, the card has sections that have been created by scoring and cutting the card stock base.  Different pieces of the designer series paper were cut to fit in each of the sections. A photo of the card laying flat has also been included.

It's a Flip!

It's hard to believe that it's October...the year seems to be flying by!  The September Fall Card class was a lot of fun and everyone enjoyed making cards celebrating the new season.  Now planning for the October classes is underway.  The focus will be on learning different folding techniques to create unique cards with movable parts.  One of the cards that will be made utilizes the Circle Card Thinlits Die and since birthday cards are always needed at one time or another, I decided it would be a good theme for the first card sample...a Flip Birthday Card!  When the card is opened the circle "flips" to expose the saying on the reverse side.

Fall has arrived!

After a couple of rainy days, today was a beautiful Fall day. The late afternoon sky was clear with no clouds in sight. Though we had a mild Summer, the cool mornings and early evenings of Fall are wonderful.  It won't be long before the hardwood trees start their vibrant display and today's card share is a tribute to the upcoming change of colors.  It's a Fall themed "Thank You" card.

Fall themed "Thank You" card
Crushed Curry card stock was used for the base of the card.  To create a tree bark effect on the background layer, Early Espresso ink was applied to one side of the Woodgrain Textured Embossing Folder, next Sahara Sand card stock was  inserted into the embossing folder and it was run through the Big Shot machine.  Doesn't it look like a piece of wood?  The Autumn Accents Bigz Die was used to cut Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper and Old Olive card stock for the leaves.  Old Olive Classic Stampin' Pad and the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set was used to randomly stamp the crushed curry patterned designer series paper.  Old Olive ink was also sponged along the edge of the Tangerine Tango sweater pattern of the designer series paper.  The green leaf was stamped using a grunge stamp with Early Espresso and Tangerine Tango.  Along the edge of the leaf, Crushed Curry was sponged to give the appearance of a leaf changing colors.  To add a bit of shine to the card, an acorn was cut from Champagne Glimmer paper. The greeting was stamped with Early Espresso onto Very Vanilla card stock and cut using the large oval punch.  It was then layered onto a piece of Crush Curry card stock punched with the extra large oval punch.  Though it's not clear in the photo, Stampin' Dimensionals were used to layer the leaves and add dimension to the card.

With a feeling of Fall in the air, I'll be making a few more cards to celebrate the change of season so be sure to check back again!

Happy Monday!

It's a beautiful morning in Georgia and there's a crispness in the air signaling that Fall has arrived.  My plan last week was to share another Fall card for the upcoming class...well obviously, that didn't happen.  I decided to visit my parents in N.C. for the week and packed my car with my craft supplies to work on projects. As you see in the photo, the entire back of my SUV was loaded.  I had enlisted my mom to assist with projects planned for a craft fair in November. So it was a surprise when we unloaded the car and started to implement our plans, to find that my stamp pads were not packed.  Yes, I forgot to pack them!!!  We did find a couple of stray StazOn ink pads in a box so I was able to complete one project. After laughing at my forgetfulness, we enjoyed visiting and prepping projects that can be completed now that I am home.  Oh yeah, the box of ink pads was sitting on the edge of the table waiting for me when I returned.

The project that was completed is a "Color Me Christmas" Tag set that will be offered at the craft fair.  When I first saw the stamp set in the Holiday catalog, I knew it would be great for creating a kit for children to color.  The kit contains everything needed for children to color and complete 15 gift tags.  All that I have left to do is print the labels.  One project down, more to complete!!!

This afternoon, I'll be working on the last card sample for the upcoming Fall class and will post it later so be sure to check in often.

She loves polka dots!

Today I'm taking a break from posting the Fall cards to share a card made for my friend's birthday celebration.  She loves polka dots...even has her toe nails painted with polka dots!  So naturally, I had to incorporate them into her card and decided to make her a polka dot dress using the Dress Up Framelits.  It's a card she's sure to like!

More Fall Cards...

A couple more cards for the upcoming card class themed "Fall Cards" are ready!  Both of the cards utilize the Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper (#132184) from the Holiday Catalog. All of the colors and designs in the package are great and it would be difficult for me to select a favorite. Another feature - it contains paper that would be great to use when preparing a masculine card.

The Truly Grateful Stamp Set (#131730 w, #131733 c) was used for this first card. The Soft Sky, Crushed Curry and Chocolate Chip plaid in the designer series paper provides a beautiful background.

"Truly Grateful "
Other materials used includes: Chocolate Chip Card Stock (#102128), Crushed Curry Card Stock (#131199), Whisper White Card Stock (#100730), Early Espresso Classic Stampin' Pad (#126974), Crushed Curry Classic Stampin' Pad (#131173), and 1 1/4" Burlap Ribbon (#132140).  The ovals were cut using the Ovals Collection Framelits (#129381).

The other card is a Thanksgiving card and uses the appropriate "Happy Thanksgiving" sentiment from the Tags 4 You Stamp Set (#131820 w, #131823 c).  It was cut using the Label Bracket Punch (#132153) and attached using dimensionals.  In addition to the Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper, Tangerine Tango (#111439) and Very Vanilla (#101650) Card Stocks were used.  The maple leaves were stamped using the Magnificent Maple stamp (#131868 Wood only) and Crushed Curry Classic Stampin' Pad (#131173).  To achieve the two-tone effect, the leaf edges were swiped using a Tangerine Tango Stampin' Write Marker.  The larger maple leaf was cut using the Autumn Accents Bigz Dies (#127812) in the Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (#113439).  The paper was crumpled to achieve a textured look and attached with dimensionals.

"Happy Thanksgiving"

Hope these cards have inspired you to start thinking of Fall!

Fall Class - Card #1

For the September card classes, attendees will make a Halloween card and three Fall themed cards. The Halloween card will employ the "star burst" technique.  It is a wonderful technique that enables one to use scraps of designer series paper or card stock.  In addition to the cards, the class will make a sour cream container treat holder.  The tags on both the card and treat holder were embossed.  Additionally, I decided to "grunge" the star burst and sponged black ink onto the light colored papers.

Thinking Halloween!

Now that it's September, it's time to start thinking of Fall activities and the first that comes to mind is Halloween.  My challenge for this card was to design a card that could be constructed in 20 minutes or less and not require every tool or paper in my arsenal.  In other words, employ the KISS (keep it super simple) technique!  I was also able to use paper from my "scrap" collection.  Here's the result...

Another Friend's Birthday!

As the title implies, I have another friend celebrating her birthday this week so I'm sharing the card that she'll receive from me.  I enjoy the soft color of the So Saffron card stock, therefore, I decided to make a mono-chromatic card focusing on it.  The emboss resist technique was used on the Swallowtail butterfly to add depth of color.  This technique is done by heat embossing desired image onto card stock and then sponging in a circular motion the desired color over the embossed image.  On this card, Crushed Curry was the ink color used.  The image "resists" the color but the area around the image becomes shaded.

It's Birthday Time!

Two friends are celebrating birthdays this week so cards were prepared for each of them.  The first card that I'm sharing is a "flip card" which was made using the new Circle Card Thinlits Die.  With the new die, it made preparing a flip card very easy.  Taking photos of the card was not as easy!  I apologize for the photo but I did not check it's quality before presenting the card.  However, you can still see how the cut circle "flips" when opened.  The flip side of the birthday cake circle is also decorated.

To see the flip card in action, view the video in my post labeled:  Giggle Greeting (on the right side bar).

The other birthday card prepared this week uses one of my favorite flower stamps from the Regarding Dahlias Stamp Set (#130324 w, #130327 c).  The flower was stamped with VersaMark ink pad (#102283) and heat embossed using Black Stampin' Emboss Powder (#109133).  The petals were colored using Crushed Curry Stampin' Write Marker (from the Regals Stampin' Write Markers Collection #131262)  and a blender pen (#102845).  Using my paper snips, I "fussy" cut the dahlia and used a Stampin' Dimensional to add a bit of pop to the card.  Other materials used includes the following: Coastal Cabana card stock (#131297), Crushed Curry card stock (#131199), Whisper White card stock (#100730), Eastern Elegance Designer Series Paper (#130131), Artisan Label punch #130920), Petite Pairs stamp set (#128706 w, #122497 c), Crushed Curry Classic Stampin' Pad (#131173), Rhinestone Basic Jewels (#119246) and Whisper White 3/8" Taffeta Ribbon (#109070).  Since the friend receiving this card enjoys gardening, I thought this card would be appropriate and I think she'll enjoy it.

"BOO" Banner

Today was a day filled with lots of fun!  The last Spinner Card Class was held this afternoon and all had a good time.  The cards turned out very nice.  Afterwards, I made a couple of birthday cards which I'll be sharing later this week and completed the "BOO" banner that you see below.  It was a blast making the banner.  It was supposed to be for my grandson but it turned out so cute that I'll be making another for him (LOL)!!!

"BOO" Banner using Stampin' Up! Build a Banner & Halloween Banner Accessory Simply Created Kits

The banner was made using the Build a Banner Simply Created Kit (#133507) and the Halloween Banner Simply Created Accessory Kit (#132698).  Both are in the Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalog.  The kits contain everything you need to make your banner except for inks and adhesives.  Hot glue is recommended.  I also found the Sponge Daubers (#102892) were perfect for applying the ink.  The Build a Banner kit contains 18 blank canvas pennants so there are more for me to play with!

Spinning Around!

Happy Friday!  The cards being shared today are the final two spinner cards that are being made in the August card classes.  The first class was on Wednesday evening and everyone had fun making the cards.  I expect the class this week will have fun too!

Whenever I decided to have a class on spinner cards, I knew one of the cards had to incorporate a pinwheel.  The pinwheel was made using the retired Pinwheel Sizzlit.  The pinwheel spins wonderfully and it would be great to use on a child's birthday card.  I opted to prepare more of an adult version with the "grunge" look and one of my favorite color combinations: Crisp Cantaloupe and Baked Brown Sugar.

Artisan Label Punch (#130920)
1/8" Mini Brads (#122941)

The last of the spinner cards is my favorite and was cased from Linda Gutierrez at www.StampingYearRound.com.  The technique of using the brayer to ink the honeycomb embossing folder creates the appearance of a real honeycomb. Crystal Effects was used on the bee's wings to create a glossy appearance.

Quick & Easy Halloween Bash

It's been a wet and unseasonably cool last few days in Dixie!  Unfortunately, it coincided with a visit with our grandson and plans were dampened but not completely wiped out.  Though pool time was shortened, we were able to enjoy reading about dinosaurs, sharks and snakes!  Currently, Alexander's favorite topics.

Since we've been busy entertaining a four year old, I have been unable to spend time crafting but have a card to share that was prepared for a recent team meeting swap.  The criteria for the card swap was that it should take ten minutes or less to make.  When you're in a pinch and need a card, it's  nice to have card plans that can be put together in just a few minutes!

Spinner Cards

It's been a hectic day and I'm burning the midnight oil!  It's now early Tuesday morning but before shutting down the computer, I wanted to share a couple of the card samples prepared for next week's Spinner Card class.  These are fun cards to make and we'll be making four different cards.

The materials and method for making the cards will be shared after the class.

This is a short post but don't fret, another project will be forthcoming in the next few days.
Until then, have a great week!

Another Giggle!

Hope that you had a great weekend!  Our son's family visited for the weekend and we celebrated "July" birthdays...even though it's August.  Seems that time flies and coordinating everyone's schedules can be tricky but I'm not complaining.  It's great that we were able to spend time together.

Today another of the stamps from the Giggle Greetings stamp set is being shared and this card is sure to bring a smile!  I thought "the dog chasing his tail" would be perfect for using on a spinner card.  The dog really does chase his tail!!!  The Gorgeous Grunge stamp set was also used to add a fun background element.

Giggle Greeting!

Happy Thursday!  Hope you've been enjoying the week.  The week has flown by for me.  I was called to be on "grandma" duty for my grandson who was not feeling well but as a four year old does, he recovered quickly!  It was nice to spend a couple of days with him even though he wasn't his normal, precocious self.

The card being shared with you today was recently given to a friend for her birthday.  Since she's a cat lover, it seemed most appropriate.  The stamp is from the Giggle Greetings stamp set  (#131062 w, #131065 c) in the current Stampin' Up! catalog.  It's a stamp set that is aptly named and is sure to bring smiles to card recipients!

Time for Tutorials!

Hope you had a great weekend.  As mentioned last week, two tutorials were being prepared to share with you - an envelope tutorial and a treat tutorial.  To jog your memory, below is the photo of the envelope that I made for a "Fancy Envelope Swap" that was held at convention.

Handmade Envelope using Stampin' Up! Card Stock and Flower Shop Stamp Set

For the tutorial, I have used plain white card stock but when making an envelope for a card, select the appropriate card stock or designer series paper to coordinate with your project.

Step 1:  Cut card stock, 7" by 11".
Step 2:  Score on the 11" side at 2 1/2" and 7".
Step 3: Rotate paper and score the 7" side at 1/2" and 6 1/2".  See below:

At this time, you should stamp your card stock and if desired, use an edgelit or a border punch to create a decorate edge on the top flap (2 1/2" scored side).  You can also use an embossing folder at this stage.

Step 4:  Fold 1/2" and 6 1/2" score lines using bone folder.  Then use snips to cut off the 1/2" piece on each of the sides.  Cut only to the 2 1/2" score line and from the 7" score line to the bottom of the card stock, as shown below:

Step 5:  To decrease the bulk when folded, snip a small triangle from top and bottom of each of the extended side flaps.  See below:

Step 6:  Fold side flaps in toward center of envelope and add sticky strip.
Step 7:  Remove red strip and fold bottom of envelope (7" scored line) over the sticky strip flaps to form envelope pocket.

Step 8:  If desired, create a belly band by cutting a 1 1/2" x 10" strip of designer series paper or additional card stock to wrap around card to hold flap closed.  Embellish as desired.

To "kick it up a notch", available on August 1 in the Holiday Mini Catalog, Envelope Liners Framelits Dies (item #132172) will be available!

The treat pouch was also made for swapping at convention.  Inside of the pouch is a Ghiradelli Chocolate Square. I decided since there would be ample cards for swapping, it would be fun to create a pouch and swap chocolates for cards!  These make a great give-away when you want to let someone know you're thinking of them.

Treat Holder made using Stampin' Up! Ovals Collection Framelits.  Holds Ghiradelli Chocolate Square.

Directions:
  1. Use the large, scalloped oval from the Ovals Collection Framelits (Item #129381) and Big Shot to cut card stock into scalloped oval.
  2. With the widest side of the oval against upper edge of simply scored scoring tool (Item #122334), score the oval at 1 1/4", 1 1/2", 3 1/2" and 3 3/4".
  3. Rotate card stock so that narrow part of oval can now be scored.  Score at 2 3/4" and 3".
  4. Using paper snips, cut edge out of each side of oval along the 2 3/4" score line until you reach the intersection of the inner most score line (1 1/2", 3 1/2").  It will resemble a tree with a short trunk...or it could be a bush!
  5. Using bone folder, fold along all score lines.  Fold center (trunk) inward, fold left flap in and follow with right flap to create a pocket.  Use adhesive to hold flaps in place (mini glue dots worked wonderfully).
  6. Embellish as desired.
These are the perfect size for the Ghiradelli Chocolate Square....unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture with the chocolate outside of the pouch and for once, my house is chocolate free!  But I'm sure you get an idea of how the pouch works:)

Home from Convention!

Hi everyone!  The convention ended last week and now I've recuperated from all the fun!  It's taken a week to sort through the beautiful swaps received and plan ways to incorporate the ideas into different projects.  In addition to being exciting, the convention was very inspiring and at times, overwhelming.  The opportunity to attend workshops, see new products and learn ways to expand use of current products was invaluable. I look forward to sharing some of the projects and products with you in the upcoming weeks.

Today's project shares are the items prepared for a Halloween Card and Treat Swap.
The first is the Halloween card.  Don't you think, the Owl Builder Punch made an adorable owl witch?!
