Celebrating the 4th - Monday Night Mania Follow-up

A new feature that I have started on my Facebook page, Margaret Knight, Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, is a monthly event called Monday Night Mania.  The event is a live event that lasts approximately one hour in length and I demonstrate two projects.  Plus, a few games are played for Prize Patrol.  The June event was this week and since the U.S. will soon be celebrating the 4th of July, I decided to demonstrate a note card and a treat holder to hold sparklers.  The Popcorn Box Thinlits Dies was altered to make the treat holder.   Additionally, alternative ideas for the projects were discussed.

Part of the demonstration involved using the new Sponge Brayer and the Irresistibly Floral Specialty Designer Series Paper.  Real Red Classic Ink Pad was used to color the specialty DSP paper.  Though I'm still working on getting my video skills, the presentation demonstrates how to use the sponge brayer on the paper.  By the way, I love the new sponge brayer and will be using other pages in the Irresistibly Floral Specialty DSP in future projects!  A list of all the materials used for the projects is at the bottom of this post.

I hope that you'll take time to view the video on Facebook and see how these projects were made.  Also, make note that my next Monday Night Mania will be on July 18th, starting at 8:00 p.m. EST.  We'll be "feeling foxy!"

Quick & Easy Thank You

In next month's class, the focus will be using the Floral Phrases Stamp set and coordinating Detailed Floral Thinlets Dies.  While preparing samples, I decided to use the dies set to create a quick and easy thank you card.  Whisper White card stock was used with the thinlets dies to create top layer to stamp the phrase "A Note of Thanks" in Emerald Envy ink, it was attached to card base of Emerald Envy with pieces of dimensionals, and Emerald Envy Solid Baker's Twine was looped and tied...card completeCouldn't be any easier!   "A Note of Thanks" is from the Thankful Thoughts Stamp set.

Flamingos are back!

Last week was a whirlwind week...busy with a card class and a Stampin' Up! Open House so my blog posts were on hold.  Probably a bigger factor was recouping from my grandson's visit the previous week!  We did go fishing and I'll share our tales in the near future.  In the meantime, no sure if you have looked lately but flamingos are popular again and are everywhere.  I've seen clothing with flamingo prints, home furnishings with flamingos and more.  Below is a photo of a plant holder that I received as a gift this past Christmas...guess my friend was "in the know".  It is so cute in our yard!  As always, Stampin' Up! is on trend with the Pop of Paradise stamp set which includes both a flamingo and a pineapple (another trend this year).
For a recent card swap, I decided to use the flamingo from the Pop of Paradise set to create my swaps. Since the swap required we use new products, I used Emerald Envy card stock for the base, Playful Palette Designer Series Paper (DSP) and Sweet Sugarplum ink for the design.  To add a touch of gold glitter, I used the gold Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to brush gold glitter onto the small splatter stamp from the Timeless Textures stamp set before stamping onto the Emerald Envy card base.

Another Guy Greeting...

My grandson is visiting this week and I've been able to steal away a few minutes to share a post.  In the recent Guy Greetings class, the technique of stamping onto a Textured Impressions Embossing Folder was introduced.  The card was cased from Frances Martin and is on her YouTube channel (Stamp & Scrap with Frenchie). Her card is beautiful and I knew I wanted to teach the technique in a class. Great news -  the Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder returned and is now available in the 2016-2017 catalog.

Stampin' Up! Woodland Textured Impressions Folder & Guy Greetings Stamp Set
After trying various methods and viewing videos of this technique, I would like to share some hints on stamping on the embossing folder -
1.  Using a brayer to apply the background ink seemed to work best for obtaining a light background.  Sponging seemed to create a mottled look.
2.  Use water-soluble ink to avoid permanently staining your embossing folder.
3.  When inking your stamp for stamping onto the textured embossing folder  (on this card -  the automobile), make sure to evenly ink the stamp and hold in place for about a 30-60 seconds to allow the ink to transfer onto the embossing folder.  Be sure to stamp - straight down/straight up to avoid smearing.
4.  It was easiest to place the card stock onto the non-inked side of the embossing folder, then fold the inked/stamped side over the card stock before rolling through the Big Shot.
5.  Keep in mind that the stamped image outline will not be as clear as images stamped directly onto card stock.

Everyone in the class enjoyed this technique and all the cards turned out beautifully.  I encourage you to give it a try.

Now to go find out what mischief my grandson may be into...it's gotten very quiet!!!
