Birthday Chick!

Have you seen the chicken stamps?  I'm loving the "Hey, Chick" Sale-a-bration stamp set and best of all, it's free with a $50 Stampin' Up! order (before shipping & taxes).  Last week, I decided to use the the stamp set to make a birthday card for a friend and was inspired by a card on Pinterest that used the party hat on the chicken.  I can honestly say that this was one fun card to make from start to finish.  Hope it makes you smile too!

Beautiful You Birthday

With the start of a new year, I like to highlight birthday cards in the January class.  One of the cards in this past week's class featured the Beautiful You stamp set.  When I first looked at the stamp sets in the Stampin' Up! Occasions mini-catalog, the stamp set "Beautiful You" was not a set that I planned to order...well, that changed quickly!  At the November OnStage Stampin' Up! event, it was one of the stamp sets demonstrated.  After seeing the beautiful cards and the variety of ways the images could be used, it moved quickly to the top of the list.  Plus the stamp set has lots of great sentiments.  I love all images but the gal kicking to the side is my favorite - such a carefree, happy attitude!

Notice the floral dress...it's a piece of Affectionately Yours Designer Series Paper (DSP). Stamp the image using Archival Black onto the DSP and cut the dress following the stamped lines.  Stamp the same image on Shimmery White cardstock that has been cut with a framelit from the Lots of Labels Framelits.  Use multipurpose liquid glue to attach the floral dress to the stamped image.  The hat was colored using the Daffodil Delight Watercolor Pencil and an aqua painter.  The sentiment is from the Balloon Adventures stamp set.  Layer a coordinating piece of the Affectionately Yours DSP onto Daffodil Delight cardstock base, attach the focal piece and finish embellishing with a piece of coordinating ribbon.

"Out with the Old"

Happy New Year!  Hope that 2017 is off to a good start for you.  It's been awhile since I've had an opportunity to blog...the holidays seemed to be extra hectic and with the new year, it's been "out with the old".  We've started a garage organization project (yes, early Spring cleaning) and at the same time, my craft space is being reorganized so think "chaos"!  Why does it seem that the only way to organize is to first make a mess?!  While undertaking these projects, it's been a good time to donate items that are no longer being used and I can't wait to be completed with the tasks so I can create new projects with some of the rediscovered items.

Keeping the "out with the old" theme, I want to share with you one of the Christmas card designs sent to family & friends this past holiday season. The card used the Star of Light Bundle (stamps & thinlits) from the expired Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalog.  The good news is the set is on the Holiday Carryover and still available for purchase.  The card was inspired by fellow demonstrator, Linda Heller.  Be sure to check out Linda's Stamping School.

Holiday Card using Stampin' Up! Star of Light Stamp & Thinlit Bundle

The color combination for the base of the card is Marina Mist and Dapper Denim.  The now discontinued Fancy Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper was used to cut out the star to top a piece of silver glimmer paper.  In lieu of the Fancy Frost, use a Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to emboss a piece of whisper white cardstock prior to cutting the star. Note: leave enough room at the bottom of white layer to add the sentiment.  The sentiment is stamped using the Dapper Denim Classic Stampin' Pad. Don't forget to embellish the interior with the star swoosh from the stamp set...it adds that extra touch.

Remember to "think outside the box", the Star of Light bundle would be great for creating a variety of cards themes using sentiments from other sets.

Thanks for stopping in...I am almost back on track and will be posting again this week!  So be sure to "follow me" so you'll not miss project ideas!
